Word clouds are so much fun, I needed an excuse to make another one. So here it is: via facebook, I asked people for one word that says “what this city means to you.” As expected, there were many references to winter weather, but there were some other, less expected words too. Here’s the image I ended up with, a collective perception of our city:
Interesting! There are not a lot of positive words!!
ReplyDeleteThere certainly aren't. I wonder how the results would differ if I asked the same question in the summertime - I think we all get pretty crabby about this city in mid-February.
ReplyDeleteAh, Edmonton in the winter...it is the bane of most people's existence.
ReplyDeleteThe one word that sticks out to me in that cloud is "nest" and not just because of where it is. Edmonton is kind of like a nest; you grow up here, you fly away to have new adventures in some other sprawling metropolis, and maybe someday, you find your way back.
I know there's a real Edmonton winter/ Edmonton summer dichotomy, but let's make a case for fall! I mean, come on! The river valley is so beautiful in mid-october, and if the weather hasn't gone to crap, it's the best time to breeze through the ravines on your bicycle.
I love Edmonton in the fall! In fact, I'll post a photo to that effect.
ReplyDeleteGreat! This is pretty interesting. I might try this world clouds. In return, you can visit this write my essay site.
