Dear classmates, and anybody else who may read this,
I have a confession to make: I don't want to stop writing this blog just because it's the end of the semester. But I also know that, with the life of a student, and the countless other things that have deadlines, it is unlikely that I'll be able to keep it up on my own. So I'm asking for your help. Hoping that someone else might have something more left to say about this city. I'd like to make Journal Edmonton a collaborative effort, have multiple authors, and see how it can grow. I'm not sure exactly what I want it to be yet, but I am sure of one thing: if this is about Edmonton, it can't be just me who writes it. Now, i'm moving from confession to plea: will any of you join me in this? Write with me? Continue to articulate this city in whatever form it appears?
Yours,
Erika Luckert
I just had a flashback to Braveheart...
ReplyDeleteI would love to help you continue the blog Erika--aka William Wallace.
I think a blog dedicated to such a large topic needs a range of voices in order to capture all of its dimensions. Also, I love the idea of collaborating together. I know, by myself, I would never find the time to update my blog.
However, I feel that I would need to invest in a Camera in order to meet quality requirements :)
I've never actually seen Braveheart - by which I mean to say that any plagiarism is entirely accidental.
ReplyDeleteThat's great to hear- let's talk once the semester is done, and figure out where this site is going. And no camera investments would be necessary - any kind of posts are great. I just tend to have fun with photographic ones :)
Erika, I've been thinking a lot of making a blog centered on Edmonton myself. Any time I go downtown I see something worthy of writing about, whether it is in the form of a rant or a rave.
ReplyDeleteSo I would love to join this collaborative effort. As you may have gathered from my blog, the Edmonton I like to focus on is the Edmonton of the future, and with recent announcements including the NAIT LRT line, the new Royal Alberta Museum, and the Downtown Arena, I feel like the next few years will be rife with material regarding Edmonton's development. If you need somebody to give opinions on what we can expect to see in the future, I'll gladly be that writer. Oh, and I'd definitely stray from that path and write about current Edmonton as well.
Yay! That all sounds great Ryan - it would be great to have a forward-looking writer on board, because, as you may have gathered from my blog, I tend to stay focused on the here and now.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm glad to hear that someone else finds as much inspiration in this city as I do.
I don't want to be that asshole who commits to something and then disappears when her September courseload hits, but, um -- with that caveat, I do plan on exploring Edmonton a little more this summer, and I'd love to contribute stuff like that. :)
ReplyDeleteNot sure if everyone reads everyone else's blogs every week, so maybe you could also say this in class? I seriously doubt Heather would object!
No worries - we'll take the next year as it comes. One of the advantages of having more authors on a blog is that the workload will be lightened for all those involved (at least, that's what I'm counting on!)
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I will mention it in class on Tuesday. If I manage to forget, please, any of you, stick up your hand and remind me! (crazy time of year, my mind is only semi-present...)
i would be interested if you'd have me. i will be around for the summer and the next year of school at least. and i figure this would be a good way to not revert back to hating edmonton.
ReplyDelete(i'll even write using capitals.)
Most definitely! I've added you as an author, and send you an email. Thanks for your interest :)
